hi tlym7! that's normal if ur nano is plugged into ur computer - it is designed to charge when plugged into ur computer even when it is turned off. the charging battery symbol appears when it is charging - either when it is plugged into ur computer or plugged into a wall power outlet.

if ur nano is not plugged into ur computer or a power outlet, then something is wrong. in that case, try to reset ur nano (power on and immediately hold down the Menu and Select buttons): http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61705

Well DUUUU, maybe it is trying to tell you it is charging. Really, it is OFF, but it is also ON. The "hot all the time" memory back up circuit keeps running even when the unit is "Turned Off". This is true with cell phones and many other devices, so when you are "charging" it, you do that with it "turned off" or you can "trickle charge" it, with it turned on. Either way, it should have some indication that it is charging and when charged that should turn off. Some things do this with a simple LED in series with a current limiting resister and some use a LCD icon, as in your case.
