The Soviet's spent 1 and half trillion fighting a cold war, we seem to sending nearly half of that back into China, simply in the name of cheap products, not caring what the long term conquenses shall be. Is "GREED" truely the issue that will lead to America's downfall or at least the rise of a potentially dangerous adversary?

Actually, China is already a superpower in its own right, and it is keeping up with the rest. Decades ago, no one would have thought that China could emerge victorious in the economic world. But she's here right now, and constantly changing and improving, too. For now, there's no such thing as a status quo for her. You pose a very interesting question, though. Yes, it is highly probable that we might have created a Frankenstein in our midst. It really could turn out to be a situation where the created kills the creator.

Part of reason why the West originally wanted China to open up is because they thought it will do her good, and expose her to the world and democracy at large. They thought that by doing this, China would not turn out as a hermit nation like North Korea. However, this only partly came true, because now everyone is realising that the grip of the communist party is so tight that it will almost be impossible to change her, at least in the forseeable future.

Frankly, no matter how much we talk about peace, I still see a big brawl ahead.

I am not impressed with the Chinese at the moment. Especially when you work at your last job and certain Chinese people refuse to deal with you unless you meet them in parking lots to buy their inventory! Especially when all kinds of corrupt events take place at the last job you worked at and your Chinese Doctors jerk you around! Especially when this sick disgusting country of Canada covers up computer hacking and invasion of privacy and these people try and jerk you around! Especially when the stock market crashes as a result of over-valued Chinese stocks and many people lose their RRSP investments as a result and certain socialist media people try to brainwash the public that it is not China but other reasons- just like the same kind of BS that is used to brainwash the public that the Salmon industry is becoming extinct because of regular fishing and businesses when Natives are allowed to dip their nets into rivers and take piles of fish!!!!!!!!!!!! What a sick country this is! It's not greed- it's extreme socialism!! America has some negative attributes but I would rather live in Texas and the USA than some BANANA REPUBLIC that lies to people and libels their reputations illegally under extreme SOCIALISM!!!!

China is as dependent on us as we are on them, so they have no interest in disrupting the trade, just as we like to have cheaper products. But if we were to stop trading with them, the Chinese economy basically shuts down; they would lose a very large percentage of their export trade, and its possible that Japan and South Korea, US allies, would stop buying from China as well, which completely shuts down the economy. So they aren't interested in angering the US, at least not too much.

China is also a open market that alot of people and countries have used for cheap labor and cheap products while undercuting the compitition. So yes it is possable for China to surpase the soviet Union in economic strength. It is also equally possable that it will pass america in economic strength if people keep dumping money into the country.

Go China Go!!! Why can't other countries enjoy some superpower status along with the US? China isn't thinking about starting wars.

Give people something to lose and you will see just how peaceful they can be. I do feel for Taiwan. I'm certain China will take them over in the next five to ten years.

China can be a "superpower" when it buys a blue water navy. Otherwise, it's powers will be limited to economic influence.

China can't exert it's military influence very far beyond it's own borders.
