The term "white person", is not a racial classification but rather a perceived trait used to categorize people on the basis of skin color, which is highly prone to fluctuation within every race. Genetically, there is little difference between racial or ethnic groups, but South Asians (particularly Indians) are commonly grouped with Europeans and Middle Easterners, because all three either share common facial characteristics (of course these fluctuate widely within every race as well), or are much closer to each other genetically (of course, overall there is little difference) then they are to other groups. In the United States, Europeans, North Africans, and Middle Easterners are classified as White, while Indians are classified as Asian by the United States Census. However, Asian is a very broad term, and every race on earth is probably represented in Asia, making the term 'Asian' illegible as a racial category.
(Also, the post above me made a reference to Aryans, which is another mistake. The term Aryan is linguistic only, and not racial. Also, it is generally accepted by all credible historians that South Asia is home to Aryan 'people')
