In my opinion, I think they have what it takes to win it all this year. If everybody stays healthy and they continue to play like they are right now, they can definitely beat the spurs or the mavs in a 7 game series. I thought they had a chance to win in 05, but then Joe Johnson got hurt and they lost to the mavs in 6. But yes, i think they can do it this year

in more recent years, id say that they have failed to keep draft picks and draft choices.
think about it, they let nash go a few years into his career (only to pay him to come back), they traded off Michael Finley, and they traded off a draft pick which could have been Loul Deng
in more recent years since nash has come back, they have won the pacific crown 3 years in a row. the last 2 years they made it into the playoffs only to lose in close matches. i believe that those games were lost due to injuries. last year it was Amare playing at limited capicity, and the year before it was Joe Johnson attempting to come back from an eye injury. had those injuries not occured, i believe the suns could have won a championship.
i know a lot of people dont think the suns are defending because opponents score a lot of points, but lets also remember that the suns dont use a lot of the shot clock up. this in turn gives the opposing teams more opportunities to take shots. teams average more shot attempts against the suns, of course theyre going to get more points. but u cant think the suns dont play defence, cause when u break down the stats, they have at times this season, proven to be a strong defensive unit.
in the near future, this year and possibly next will be there best chances to win. with nash running the team they have a good chance. but soon nash will slow, and unless they get another pg (barbosa is either a SG or a back up at best at the moment), then i think they will take a step back

Let's see what we have in store for the Suns in this year's Playoffs:
1st Round: Lakers or Nuggets
The Suns sure would love to run and gun with the Nuggets. They'd win against the Nuggets in six games I think.
Against the Lakers, they'd face one of the best players in the NBA in Kobe Bryant. Kobe can score anytime he wants to and with the Suns penchant for not playing defense, I don't see why Kobe can't score 40 a night against them. With the Lakers getting healthy for the Playoffs, the Lakers are more dangerous compared to the Nuggets.
2nd Round: Mavericks
A rematch of last year's Conference Finals. Suns couldn't get it done last year when the Mavs were still not the better team that they are today, so I think the Mavs will still beat these Suns in the second round.
3rd Round: Spurs
Now this is considering that the Suns can beat the Mavs in the second round. Suns can't win against the Spurs in a 7 game series. They couldn't do it 2 years ago when they met the Spurs in the Conference Finals with Amare Stoudemire scoring 40 points a game. They lost that series 4-1. The Spurs went on to win the championship during that year.
Bottomline: The Suns' chances for a Championship are small considering the fact that they have to face two defensive-minded teams in both the 2nd and 3rd round of the Playoffs.

When the Suns learn to do more than play offense they will win a championship until such time it just won't happen. Regular season you can run up and down the court all you want, come playoff time be ready for some defense. If you don't have defense all the running up and down will not help. That other team on the floor will stop you. They know who your shooters are, they have studied the tapes, they are ready to stop you in your run and gun tracks. The Suns have a strong offensive team so your core is good they need to develop the defense.

I think the Suns have a good shot a winning it this year. History and tradition are sure fun things to observe and watch on ESPN classic, but it has no relevancy on the game today. Look at the bulls in the 90s-- and today. Not the same team. And the same can be said about the lakers... they have been average at best.
The Suns will get their chance again soon... maybe this year and it might be next, but when they do, they can win it all. Eyes on the prize.

BAD LUCK Barkley the MONSTER!
And for them to win it this year is very simple. Just let Nash do what he does. If the team stays healthy they will take it all. The Mavs post some threat, but they can't stop Amare long enough in a 7 game series. As for the Spurs, great defense, but they are too old they can't keep up with the suns for seven games. Any team in the east is a joke, Lebron, Gil, Chauncey all great players but their teams can't do it. I believe the suns will break the bad luck streak

I would say bad luck. Phoenix has always been blessed with great players and deep bench but they'd always seem to lose a key player at the wrong time. In 1993, when they made it to the Finals, they lost Cedric Ceballos. A year later, when they were seeded to win the title following MJ's retirement, they lost their most valuable big man in Danny Manning. Last year, Amare was injured the whole season. This year could be their breakthrough. However, they've got to get past the Mavs.

So the Suns beat the Mavs in one game...woopeedo!!
They were so spent from their "victory" that they went on a two game losing streak. The Mavs however came back with a 4 game win streak that at the moment is ongoing. There is no way the Suns could outlast the Mavs on sheer stamina alone! Mark cuban is the dum dum here though if he wouldn't have gotten rid of Nash and Avery still took over the Mavs would be absolutely unbeatable!!

we have all our reasons but i personally think that the other teams just had their shot. and the suns didn't.
anyway, as for the current suns roster, the problem i think is their defense, especially last season when they lost amare stoudemire because of a knee injury. they need to develop on defense. they'll have no problem on offense because they have a lot of shooters and scorers. i think while steve nash is with the suns, the ring that the franchise always wanted is just games away.
steve nash, amare stoudemire, shawn marion, and mike d'antoni can make it happen, the phoenix suns will get their first ever championship on of these years.

Phoenix just hasn't had a tradition of great players. When "Thunder" Dan Majerle is considered one of the greatest players in your franchise's history, you know the best is yet to come in terms of talent. Maybe Nash and Stoudemire will get the job done and replace mediocre players like Kevin Johnson in the Suns' legacy.
