What exactly is "white trash"?

I was talking to someone while still considering a third ear piercing, and they said it would "be white trash". The fact that I plan to get a pickup truck as my first car was also noted to be white trash. What exactly makes someone white trash?

It's the same thing as being a worthless low life. Someone that seems to have no ambition to be any better than what they are. Lazy, dirty,uneducated and desperate are some characteristics that make a person white trash.
