Wasn't Ollie North a career vet who protected the US for decades?
Am I wrong in suspecting Reagan's hands in the Iran/Contra affair?

Hi Chi.
You know, when I was a kid I had a framed picture of Oliver North on my wall. What a great American patriot. I still have an original US World Report in plastic wrap, with him on the cover, hand in the air, at his swearing in before Congress.
I also had a picture of Reagan.
Yes, there were loud Congressional hearings, and it effectually ruined North's military and government career. He was certainly the fall guy for a larger program.
What did Reagan know? I doubt he knew nothing at all, or gave explicit permission. But I'm sure he knew peripherally. But so what? Knowing peripherally and explicitly ordering are two separate things.
If I see you commit a crime, but the result of your crime is something I would desire, and I don't report the crime, am I a criminal?
Isn't that how Seinfeld ended?
But you're not wrong in suspecting a link. proving it, however, went nowhere. Which, partially, was a lack of will.

Ah, but Meese called Ollie 3 days before the FBI siezed North's files and Ollie and Fawn Hall, his secretary admitted shredding hundreds of files about Iran/Contra.
And just think, this icon of the Radical Right may be responsible for American deaths if Bush invades Iran. A true GOP traitor.

While Reagan did not plan the affair, he certainly lied when he repeatedly said he knew nothing about what was going on. We cannot led North slide because he was just as guilty as anyone forging and scraping documents- essentially he tried to overthrow the constitution
