Strong magnetic fields are thought by some to be harmful to living tissue. Though some others think they are beneficial. I don't know how magnetoencephalography works but it must be akin to MRI (magnetic resonance imaging).
Disadvantage might be the tissue effect thing.
Advantage... you might be able to see inside live subjects without cutting through their skulls.
