Ok, What do you think the chances of ME having twins are: twins run on my dad's side...about 5 sets [most are fraternal]. BUT on my b/f's side, his great great great grandpa, great great grandpa, great grandpa, grandpa & grandma, dad, AND HIM [the other died] were identical twins.

Ok, a lot of people are saying my b/f's genes have NOTHING do to with me having identical twins...Many are saying it has to come from my side.

Well [please], explain the phenomenon of why all the males on my b/f's side are twins...

So far it is undecided as to identical twins being hereditary. There is some research out saying that it may be hereditary from the father's side from something in the sperm. It is not something that has been determined yet so there is a possibilty. For fraternal twins that lies in the maternal side and if there are fraternal twins on your side then there is a larger chance that you might have fraternal twins.

Identical Twins are not genetic- only fraternal (meaning they come from 2 eggs). The chance of identical twinning occuring is 4 in 1,000.

Twinning ONLY runs down the maternal side. So unless they run down your mothers side, you have no genetic chance. Its not the answer you want to hear, I'm sure.
The gene runs through females only. Males have nothing to do with making you drop two eggs to be fertilized.
No one understands why identical twinning occurs. Its considered a "fluke" of nature when the egg randomly splits. These sites can help you better understand twinning.

All these sites can confirm and go into further detail the information I have stated above. I have studied a great deal about twins as I am currently carrying identical boys.

Whether or not you'll have twins are determined by the mother and not the husband. It doesn't matter how many twins there are on your husbands side, you actually have to carry the gene for hyperovulation. Only fraternal twins are hereditary, and the gene is only passed on by the women in your family. Usually your mother or maternal grandmother.

Multiple births (twins, triplets, etc) have increased over the years due to fertility drugs and ivf but the chances of having identical twins are lower than having fraternal twins. 1 in 80 for fraternal and 1 in 133 for identical.

It doesn't matter what's on your boyfriends side. It is the mother that produces twins by either releasing two eggs that are fertilized (fraternal), or one egg that later splits (identical). Multiples are more common in older women and women who conceive with medical assistance. You never know, my mom, grandma and great grandma all had twins but so far my sister and I have not (5 pregnancies between us). My younger sister refuses to have children, lol.

I hate to tell you this, but it is your maternal side of the family that can pass the "twin" gene to you... what your b/f family has is of no importance. It is your body that produces the egg or eggs that are released each cycle. Fraternal twins happen when 2 separate eggs are fertilized; Identical twins happen when one egg is fertilized and then splits in two.

Eat lots of yams. It has been shown to increase the likelyhood. I don't know why, but I read that somewhere.
