Propaganda has alot to do with it as well as extremeist dictators. Socialism is an intellectually advanced form of government that should follow capitalism in socio economic progression. Communism is associated with rigid control of citizens. Socialism creates far more psychological freedom than capitalism does but narrows the gap between rich and poor in theory. It works if the extremely wealthy are willing to give (the extremely wealthty in america are the worst of the lot and should be systematically exterminated).

Americans (at least were) afraid of communism because of economic and political upheaval.

America is a capitalist country, anyone can be rich if they work hard and know the right people etc, what you make you own.

Communists, believe in strong central government, which is run by the people, everyone is equal, wealth distributed equally, no rich no poor (in theory).

Think on how big business owners would appreciate this sentiment (can you really imagine the Oil companies sharing their wealth? we'd be happy for a reduction in gas prices!)

Marx and Engel predicted that there would be revolutions until everyone was equal. The French Revolution was a great example, the poor turned on the wealthy and clergy and set up a new government.

The Russian revolution was following the same pattern but skewed off somewhere, (Lenin and Stalin had something to do with it) Communism is the tainted version of socialism.

Socialsim is the general idea of making everone as equal as possible with minimal damage to their personal assets. Communism is violent and revolutionary form of it that was distorted by dictatorial individuals such as Lenin , Stalin and so on. Socialism has another branch that is waaay better, SOCIAL
DEMOCRACY. It means basicly , capitalism is good but it isn't
prefect. We will cure it's ilneses with keeping the poor in mind without damaging the rich or the middle class directly .
Look at Scandinavian and Baltic states , and Spain under it's current goverment .

There is no difference between communism and socialism. AMerica is afraid of communism because a communstic government ruins lives and it makes everyone get paid the same. SOme jobs require more school and should get paid more then other people. Also, there is no freedom of speech. If you speak out against the government you will get killed.

I dont want my movements controlled by the government constantly and America is likely never to become communstic because of Checks and Balances

Because Communism is totalitarianism, destroys all freedoms, especially economic ones, not to mention that communism only creates a monster of a government to replace big business, and it breeds corruption. Nothing good about communism, the standards of living is even lower than that of capitalist countries.

Who's afraid? Communism is a morally and politically bankrupt system of government that strangles the freedoms of its citizens.

Socialism is Your Government Knows Best that, too, is an affront to freedom and individual choice. It allows the government to tax its citizens to fund projects it deems worth while, programs often rife with corruption and mismanagement.

America, no matter what the screamers say, has it right, for the most part.

Communism and socialism are one and the same thing. It's just a matter of degree. Basically communism does not work, It just oppresses the people it is meant to benefit. Read Animal Farm by George Orwell.

It's not that us americans are afraid! Its just that communism is a controlled law system set by the government, if we had communism we would all be BORING because we'd be assigned to a job where "Special" uniforms and ALWAYS the government could do whatever they wanted with us!! Would you want that??????????? I think not..

Americans aren't afraid of Communism. We simply realize that it's the right and desire of individuals to exercise free choice, and you can't do that in a communistic environment. All free people should HATE communism, not fear it.

It's a failed system that brings everyone into absolute poverty with totalitarianism rule. It goes against everyone this country was founded on. You have no rights under communism.
