95' Nebraska hands down you can't go with those Trojans of the last few years for a few reasons. One, Carson Palmer's USC's squad would have smoked Lienhart and dem easily on a bad day. If you look at the last year Carson played that schedule from that year alone was tougher than the last [3] years the Trojan's played combined. Granted they lost a few and one of those was K-State in Kansas when they were in the top 10. But they smoked a good Buff's team in their own turf by 5 Td's a week before that lost.
Secondly, before all the talent started noticing USC and before they started even getting 5 star recruits Carson's squad still sent a gang of athletes to the league. Oh yeah! the players that did'nt make the jump to NFL kept the team's continuity to make it all easy for Lienhart, Thunder & Lightning inc.
Back to those 95' Huskers no team defenses in the last 3 decades or beyond could have stopped A. Green, L. Phillips & T. Frazier. The "TRUE TANDEM" of any collegiate or professional dynasties. And before I leave the end of year poll on that particular year had [4] teams from the Big 12 in the top 10 and [7] total in the top 25. WERE THERE ANY TEAMS FROM THE WACK 10 or I mean the Pac 10 existing in the top 40 when USC made there run. Nuff said.

The '95 Huskers do, in fact, deserve serious consideration. Nebraska won their championship by 38 points and '04 USC "only" won by 36 (lol). I give a slight edge to the Trojans due to the versatility of their offensive attack.
For the Tennessee Vols fan: NFL players from that '04 squad (so far) Matt Leinart, Reggie Bush, Lendale White, Winston Justice, Mike Patterson, Lofa Tatupu, Deuce Lutui, Shaun Cody, Dominique Byrd, Darnell Bing, Matt Cassel. Coming this year in the first two rounds: Dwayne Jarrett, Ryan Kalil, Steve Smith. At least four more coming next year.
Btw: Since the 70's average player weight has increased by 25 lbs. Average weight of an O lineman has increased by 62. I recently saw an old photo of Bradshaw lining up behind center. Shocking! It looked like he was lining up behind a running back the guy was so small, with thin, spindly arms in comparison to today's behemoths. And this was the dominant 70's team! Players today are simply bigger, stronger, faster, better than they were back then. This debate has to be constrained to, at most, the past 20 years to be at all realistic.

I have followed college football since 1980, so I can't really rate the teams before that -- but as good as USC was from 2003-2005, I find it hard not to vote for the 1994-1995 Nebraska team. DISCLAIMER: I do have an indirect bias as I am a Gator, but I saw first-hand what a powerhouse this team was. Remember, they were known for their dominating running game, but they also virtually shut down one of the great passing games of all time -- which nobody expected them to do. And this was a year after they upset Miami in what was essentially a home game for the Hurricanes.

It is hard to say, remembering just how much football changed through the years.
How do you compare Michigan's 1901 and 1902 teams--both going 11-0, scoring 501 to 0 in 1901 and 644 to 12 in 1902 to teams from the 20s or 40s or later. How do compare teams whose players played 60 minutes to teams with specialists?
If you confine yourself to teams since 1960, I'd call for four contenders: 1968 Ohio State, 1971 Nebraska, 1972 USC and one of Bear Bryant's four National Champions in the 70s. (I'm simply not well enough versed in Tide lore to choose, but all were fantastic teams).
Today's teams simply are not as good. Players jump to the NFL and scholarship limits reduce depth.

Do people actually think the 2004 Trojans were the best all-time? I don't think they could have beaten an Oklahoma team from 1973-1976. I don't think they were better than the 1981 Trojans with Marcus Allen. It would have been hard for them to beat the 1993 Florida State team. As for all-time best, I say 1987 Notre Dame.

I agree with the top 2. That really was a good year and a good team. If i chose a second best, it'd be the 1939 aggies. It was a time of turmoil and they went through several things together. Buy the book, it's good.

2001 Canes.
That could have been a damn NFL Probowl Team with all the talented players on that team. They dominated all season and crushed Nebraska.
