You should check with the city code office at city hall. You can have a 6ft wall in the back yard or side yard but not in the front. Usually they are only a few feet tall for the front yard.

If you live in a "private" neighborhood that has covenants that restrict certain aspects of your home and yard, then you need to check with them.
Otherwise, check with the city or county code enforcement office in your area (depending on whether you live inside the city limits or outside), and they can tell you what height limits if any exist for your particular piece of property.

Contact your local City Hall, ask for Building and Safety. Ask about any permits, inspections and approvals. Check if there is a web site, for example, enter "cityofanywhere", but replace it with the city you live in. Happy fencing!

1. if you live in a subdivision that has an HOA = homeowners association, then find out about their requirements and RESTRICTIONS! (they can be BRUTAL)
2. call your county courthouse and ask about zoning and their restrictions (theirs will probably be either 4' or no none) backyards are usually 6'.
Considering you live in Southern Cali I'm inclined to believe that you're going to face some restrictions.

there may be such "rules" but there is no law except in aviation,, as in the FAA!! your fence would need to be reported so it can be logged onto charts,, and it will need
to have specified lighting and strobe lights to warn pilots of aircraft and UFO'S!!!
