from skinning catfish..."Some types of catfish have a smooth, tough, inedible skin instead of scales, and, therefore, must be skinned--not scaled like most other fish...!!!

Probably form the kids exercise of grabbing a crossbar with your hands, pulling yourself up and putting your feet through the space between your arms. Then pulling your body around until your feet are on the ground with your hands still holding the crossbar which is now behind your back. That manuver is called 'skinning the cat'.
