I'd say it totally depends on your school, and if you're really gonna lug that thing around to class all the time... I've been going to college since 2004, and when I first got my laptop I took it to class all the time... now half the time I just leave it in my car in case I need it... but I think some schools might actually require it... so I think you should ask people that actually go to your school... both I hear can be easily stolen, but laptops might be a little easier to secure cuz I think all laptops come w/ a security slot, a tiny little slot that allows you to lock it to a major piece of furniture, deters theives... desktops are probably a lot harder to secure like that... and being a mac user, whatever you get, i say, get a mac, you never have to worry about viruses or spyware, and you can still have Microsoft Office (they make a Mac version), besides Mac, I'd say Sony would be my 2nd choice... Apple offers a student discount on their website...

Well, I'm not sure about Macs, but most of the laptops I have seen are more expensive for the same hardware that you get in a desktop (just because of the compactness). The advantage of having a laptop is that you can take it to class and take notes with it. I like my desktop because I like to play games, and I find it easier and more entertaining to play games on a desktop than on a laptop. Sometimes I wish I had a laptop instead of a desktop, but then I realize that I would just play WOW, chat on MSN, etc. instead of paying attention during class, and that probably wouldn't be a good thing. Hope this helps.

I'd buy a laptop because transporting it will be a lot easier. You'll be using a computer quite a lot and if you have a laptop you'll be able to take it to different places, such as the library, if you needed to. I also find it more comfortable sitting on my bed with my laptop on my lap when I have to write long papers instead of at a desk using a desktop computer.
Good luck in college!

Definitely a lap top. You'll be all over campus, I'm guessing... thus you need to have a pc that you can carry around with you. its much more convenient. If you are going to spend all that money, might as well buy a lap top.

You will find space at a premium in your dorm room. Also, you will find it very convenient to take your computer to the library at times rather than sit in your room. Buy a notebook that you can use with the college's wireless network and the most compact printer you can find. And don't spend a fortune on the notebook cuz a moderately-priced one will do more than you'll need for college work.

Get the laptop and remember to purchase the tech support plan along with Windows Live One Care if you buy a PC it'll provide better support for Vista since it just came out.

I would definately recommend purchasing a laptop. I used mine all through college, and it was just so convient. Some classes even required me to take it to class, we had wireless internet on specific areas of campus and I could use my personal laptop to do homework from almost anywhere. Also I would go home on weekends and I didnt have to worry about transferring all my work from my computer to CD's so that I could work on it at home, I just brought home my laptop and everything was right there. So I would definately recommend the Laptop.

To sum up what all the other peeps have said..laptop macs are friggin great as you can do your studies and answer and ask questions on Yahoo from anywhere but they are expensive. Desktops are cool and cheaper but you lose portability. Whats more important...go anywhere or money?

If u really want to study hard, I suggest u buy laptop.
U can bring it to the campus and it is very helpful in some way for studying.
But if you want to play games or other hard stuffs in your PC, u better buy desktop. Cos Most of 'em run faster than laptops.
But of course u can bring it nowhere.

It depends. If you plan on using your computer to take notes in class, which I recommend because its easier and, since most people type faster than they write, your notes are more complete. But if you don't use a computer all that often and just want it to type papers and all that, desktops are cheaper and you can get a better machine. So its all up to you.
