meiosis- tetrads form when the DNA dupplicates in gametes prior to meiosis 1. tetra=4, when homolgous chromosomes are still paired. the tetrads seperate in meiosis 1, leaving sister chromatids (i.e) one half of the homologous chromosomes in each daughter cell, then in meiosis 2 the sister chromatids seperate each going into one of the 4 daughter chromosomes.
