All the contestants are 29 and younger. I was just curious why this is the case. There are a lot of good singers out there who are over 30.

Because they want good looking people, and to them, people over 30 aren't good looking, perhaps.
It could be that 30's around the age that is required to become elected for presidency, so maybe American Idol's smart in that they're keeping the Idols away from being president.
That, and most over 30 are smart enough to know not to rely on a television show to decide who has talent, and who doesn't.

The show is geared toward and watched more by the under 30 age group, so they need to have people in that age group on it in order to keep their ratings up. Younger people don't want to watch a bunch of "old people" (over 30), because they think only the "young" are "with it".

In the Record Business young sells. Besides, they gotta have time to Marry and Divorce about 3 time and develope a mean Crack habit.
By their 30's they should be hitting the County Fair Circuit.

Its just a rule that they passed a few years ago there is an age limit i guess because there looking for hot fresh young talent

They can not exploit them financial for as long as younger singers.
