What we have in Iraq is an American occupation of that Country. Since we are building permanent Military bases there, I'd say it our Government really has no plans for withdrawing our troops.

The United States military will have a force of 50-100,000 troops divided between Iraq, Kuwait, and Kurdistan for the next 25 years, at least.
Could you define "war" for me? The "war" ended when we destroyed the Iraqi military. We are currently in a "police" action in Iraq, I believe.
Without tanks, or airplanes, or large column infantry, the small scale units the enemies in Iraq can field make Iraq a "Police action", and it will remain so for years to come.
We will "pull out" most troops over that 100,000 mark within two years, withdrawing the remaining to Kuwait, Kurdistan, and east-central Iraq. The government, and press, will term these re deployments as a withdrawal. But 100,000 troops will remain with 750 miles of Baghdad for the next quarter century.

No, I don't think the war will be over, but I think we will have to leave, and let it play out. It is not the kind of war that can be won, and this is the problem that was there from the beginning. I hate to say it, but the country in it's own way was better off under Saddam, at least it wasn't total chaos. There is nobody to run the country now and we have to get out. The Brits will be getting out soon, we can't handle it by ourselves. There isn't even a solution like Viet Nam, just let the North take it over, there isn't one group that is stronger than the others that will out in the end, it will continue to be a blood bath until who knows when.

Actually, it depends on who is President in 2008:
If this country realizes its mistake in 2000 and 2004, the war will be over in 2009. If the country elects someone who is willing to do the same things bush wants, it will be 2011.

If the cowards & traitors in the government and the White House would let the military fight a proper war instead of a politically correct one, it would be all over by Christmas.

Seriously, probably never. Most great philosophers and prophets said that world war III will be in the desert and mark the end of our time. It used to sound silly when I was young but now I am worried.

the war is over for us! didn't you hear bush say mission accomplished on the air craft carrier in 2003! we are now an occupying force in the middle of their, iraqs, civil war! check out history and you will see that countries that have invaded that region have left once the cost and the body count becomes unbearable! if someone invaded us, we'd be killing them, its no different!
