I have NO IDEA why I thought of this. I have 20/20 vision anyway. I suppose there would be a backup generator, but it would take a second or two to kick on, right? By then, you could really mess things up. For that matter, what if they lost power in the middle of any delicate, precise surgery?

Well that was an interesting question. But laser eye surgery equipment is very advanced. For example the machine I use is called the Zyoptix Z-100. It has got an eye tracker, which means the laser tracks for any movement of the patients eyes and starts moving and firing the laser when the procedure takes place. This technology is used only in Jet fighter planes. Such is tha accuracy of the machine. So the machine has a power back up and can operate even if the electricity, generator etc also fails.

I would die! I've had laser eye surgery and the procedure was not fun. My eyes are very sensitive. Anyway, I'd be fine. They'd lay down the flaps and have me come back later.

As for the other surgeries, all hospitals are required to have back up so that no one dies during an outage.

Your ophthalmologist performing this surgery would most likely reschedule and pick up where he left off, send you home with eyeglasses and possibly antibiotics.
In truth, they have backup generators to deal with such problems. Besides, the procedure takes only a couple minutes and is painless for most people ( myself included)....

It's common sense "Nothing" would happen. Power would be out so the lasers wouldn't be able to penetrate to repair your cornea. Since the electricity is off the machine will not function.

There may be a back up but I would imagine if there were a back up generator it would be used just for refrigeration & lighting. Lazars needs a lot of power to run them.
