I think that a W usually implies dropping late in the semester due to getting a bad grade. (Even if that is not why you withdrew, it is what it may look like.) I would not want a W on the transcript unless it showed that you took the same class later and got a passing grade. So, I think a W with no retake and pass of the class would be worst, W with a passing grade next, and a NC the best option.

It is worse to have NC on your transcript b/c then it doesn't apply for your credits when you do transfer. Having a W isn't as bad as long as you don't have too many of them. I, myself, only has one W on my transcript and no NC's.
