I was just wondering if you could tell me if there is any kind of law when someone that is pregnant should stop driving? I was told by a friend that i should stop at 7 months, is this true? And also is it ok to have my baby seat behind the front passenger seat or should it be in the middle?

My husband is a police officer and part time firefighter- there is my source.

There is no law stating that you cannot drive past a certain point in pregnancy. Its simply a suggestion that some doctors have because of the space between you and the steering wheel and should you be in an accident, it can cause you to go into labor.

As for the carseat- again, there is no law. HOWEVER- this is really important *If your vehicle is equipped with side airbags the safest place for baby is in the middle because if the side airbags deploy they can be more dangerous to baby then the accident itself. - That came straight from my husband who works for a fire station and they have these monthly checks to help people learn the safest installation for carseats.

You can install your carseat and have it checked at your local fire department for free. Statistically, it is believed that up to 80% of all carseats are not properly installed or being utilized properly. Check with your local FD! They can make sure you have your babies seat in the safest area for YOUR vehicle.

There is no law anywhere that says you have to stop driving when you are pregnant. You can put your baby's car seat anywhere in the back, but the middle is the safest place because they would be hit with less force if someone where to hit either side of your car in an accident. The left side is the least safest, so I would go with behind the drivers seat or in the middle.

I know for a fact that there's no law prohibiting a woman driving after 7 months of pregnancy (my wife drove til the day before our daughter was born)... The car seat can be behind the passanger seat, or the driver seat. Before we left the hospital, we had to put our baby in the car seat, and it was behind the driver seat, I figure if this was not right, they would have told us... May be it's different for each state...

Edit: hey! what's up with the "thumbs down"...? Is it because you said "policemen or women"?........ >:^(

I'm not a police officer but there is no law that says pregnant women have to stop driving at 7 months...if there were a lot of them wouldn't make it to the hospital during labor. (Yes some women DO drive when they are in labor), and according to LAW the car seat for infants should be IN THE CENTER seat of the back seat facing towards the rear of the car

I don't think that it's a law per se; I think that it's more of a safety concern for the mother and unborn child. There comes a point when the mothers abdomen is too close to the steering wheel and dash for comfortable maneuvering and safety in case of a collision.

You don't have to stop driving, just make sure your lap belt is under your belly.........and the baby carseat can be anywhere in the back seat.
