A woman I know is having problems with another woman. this lady has even gone as far as to say she hopes my friends 5 week old baby dies. It is really hurting her. She is scared but doesn't know what she can do leagly. We live in texas...any help or knowledge of the laws and what action can be taked would be great.

Ok, first off, don't tell her to wave a shotgun at this person or she will be the one going to jail. Known as assalt with a deadly weapon even if she does'nt shoot at her. Second, reporting any encounters with this person is the way to go. You create a history in the police dept. data base. So that any officers that respond to her calls. Know that this other person is a problem and is continues to be one. Get her a small recorder. So, should she have a confrontation with this person. She can get it on tape and there won't be any crap about what was said. The responding officers(the first time she calls for an officer to make an incedent report) may choose to interview this other person and that in itself may stop the problem. Last, a Concealed Hand Gun permit . The course you must complet is only one to two days long. You will have to qualify with a hand gun at a shooting range. The Texas Department of Public Safety will run a back ground check. Should you meet and pass everything you will get your lic. in 60 to 90 days. Class range in price, so shop around. the lic. runs $140.00 for four years. BUT, YOU DO NOT NEED AND/OR MUST HAVE A PERMIT TO KEEP A GUN IN YOUR HOME. Good luck I hope this was helpful.

If you can document these episodes, you can go to a judge or justice of the peace and file for a restraining order. If she is scared, do not be afraid to call the police. Establishing the she is having problems with another woman with the police is a deterrent to the other woman. If your friend has not been convicted of felony (ever) or serious misdemeanor (recently) (traffic tickets don't count), she can apply for a CHL(concealed handgun license). The course is around 150 dollars and a decent handgun cost 400 to 600 dollars. The course takes several weeks and qualifications, so it is not an immediate solution. Documenting these assaults and getting a restraining order is probably her best bet.

Unless the woman threatens to harm you or your family, you can't do anything. Tell her to mind her own effing business, and wave a loaded shotgun in her general direction every now and then. It's legal, don't worry about it ;P
