I think kobe is this... I think kobe is that...thats all you hear or I hate him as a person not a player. People have opinions and feelings, and some of those opinions and feelings are hate toward Kobe. Kobe is the biggest star in the NBA, and being the biggest star comes with a target on your back. Kobe is the easiest target and thats why people people like to criticize him any chance they can get. Criticized all the time (even when he dropped 81 and 65), compared to Jordan on a constant basis, called rapist (for the last time it was consensual), dirty player, ball-hog, etc. On the court he is hated for the same reason he is loved. In his personal life he is hated by people who don't even know him, but are quick to judge. Plain and simple there will always be someone most people hate and right now that happens to be Kobe. Once Kobe's time passes he be replaced and someone else will be the topic of conversation/most hated. That just the way it is...and will always be.

A couple of things come to mind:
Kobe has been treated like a prima donna since since he was 16 and could never deal with anyone that challanged him. Remember when Phil left the Lakers the first time? Kobe was a big reason the Lakers let him go, and Jackson is one of the greatest coaches of all time.
Also, Kobe was unwilling to let Shaq be the first option, when Shaq was the best player in the game. He would often take ill advised shots or pout and not shoot at all.
Then there is the way he dealt with the whole rape thing. He showed no class. First he denied it and claimed he was was being persecuted, then it turns out that he cheated on his wife numerous times. (he admits it in the police report) To top it off he snitched on Shaq when he was questioned by the the police. He said something like "Shaq cheats all the time and pays the women off so they wont talk". Why would you do that to a teamate?
In his defense, Kobe seems to have matured alot recently and he is arguably the best all-around player playing, just not a very nice person.

I can't speak for everyone and I don't want to use the word hate either, but I myself would say that I have a like/dislike feel for Kobe. I like his game and his potential, but I don't like his personality. I don't think any of us knows him personally, but just from watching interviews and listening to him speak I don't believe a word he says. He doesn't come off as being a very genuine speaker, or like he's just telling people what they want to hear all the time. You never get the sense he's just stating how he really feels, and that turns people off.
The rape trial and the whole Shaq thing doesn't really shape my opinion of him. It's the way he presents himself that makes me think he's full of sh*t. Also when he first came into the league it seems like he was going through some kind of indentity crisis. Everyone was comparing him to MJ and it seemed like Kobe would try to talk like him or imulate him a bit too much. I think Kobe is a great, great player, he just seems like a really shady or sometimes weird person.

He was never convicted of raping anyone. GOD where is the justice system in our country anymore for celebrities.
Anyway, people don't like him because he has a big of an ego and he plays for the Lakers, who are the Yankees of the NBA. He's generally regarded by those who know him as a stand up guy with a big heart, but because of all the negative press from his beef with Shaq and the whole "rape" case, his image is forever tainted.
Jordan was arrogant, too. As was Magic, and Bird. (Anyone who takes a shot with his eyes closed on purpose is arrogant.) On the court, arrogance isn't always bad. There's nothing wrong with swagger. It's a mark of a true competitor.

Kobe is hated or disliked simply because he is good at what he does. It happens to lots of greats. One of the problems this country has is it's great success. As Wilt said: Nobody roots for Goliath.

1: He's better then their favorite player. 2: He has to score all of the points because everyone else is horrible on the lakers. 3: Because they are bitter about the Shaq trade.
