Paul, first you should read up on the history that lead to the Government even creating this law. I am sure you are a nice person, even educated to an extent. Unfortunately because of racism and ignorant people, (and I think you and anyone else that agree with you understand what I am saying here), many people were not given the chance to work in jobs they were equally knowledgeable enough to do with the same pay. Research the Civil Rights Act of 1964. President Kennedy was the first president to use the term "Affirmative Action." AA covers all "Minorities", which African Americans are not the only minority ethnic group.

Even the term "black" sounds bais to racism. You might want to write your Senator in state to see if there is a way the program can be change to suit your needs. Just attempt to educate yourself on a subject area BEFORE you speak negatively about it and sound hateful as you intended to sound. And as far as being ashamed about, any human being that can beat, rape, steal or kill another should be ashamed....right? But most people can justify their ignorance! At any cost.

People who need affirmative action to get a job do not care about anyone or anything but themselves. They are deficient in what they need to be and expect to get what they want anyways. Anyone who takes a job based on AA has no self-respect. They show that they do not have enough pride and character to earn on their own merits.

AA is nothing more than racism from bitter losers who cannot move on from something that never affected most of them personally.

The first black highway patrolman in Okla. was a convicted felon. That is was affirmative action does for us.

Affirmative Action is still needed because we still have people in the United States that do not want to hire someone based on race, color, creed, sex, and sexual orientation.

By the way, you (as well as others agreeing with you) need to read a little more about Affirmative Action. Affirmative Action helped out more WOMEN than Black People (check out the word "sex" above).

even i find that offensive, and i'm not easily offended. maybe the whole thing went to sh*t but it was a needed measure when enacted. admit it, you like america the way it is now; it would be a pain to live in the fifties. it really sukked back then believe me. for everyone. and yet it was our greatest age. there was an enlightenment of the nation as america took responsibility for all it's citizens. (sort of).

Actually I cant name one piece of legislation that ever had a positive effect on me in the job market. I live in one of those "right to work" states. BTW how the f did they ever get that law passed, I bet if they called it what it was that wouldnt have gotten past.

They should be! Affirmative action is a joke. All it does is fuel racism and continues to drive a wedge between the races!

no reason for embarrassment. 10% of americans are african american, so 10% of college students should be the most qualified african americans. racists make the assumption that white kids who don't get into a particular college were certainly smarter than the blacks that were admitted.

If there are not enough seats for everybody, then we may need to open more colleges. Keeping minorities in the ghettos living on welfare is intolerable. damned if they do, damned if they don't.

I wish I could go back through time and whisper one word of advice to President Lincoln. "Take no prisoners and kill 'em all!"

affirmative action is not a joke and black people should not be embarassed about it. think about it, white people have so many people to look up to and be encouraged by. black people tend to be (i'm sorry, i'm not trying to be racist) raised in lower class families and neighborhoods and they don't have many role models, so, for example, a black person earning a 3.5 in high school is trying harder and achieving more than a white person earning a 3.8 and should be rewarded more, so they're offered the college seat rather than the white person (i know that affirmative action isn't ONLY in college admissions, this is just an example).
