What u have here seems to be an answer that is a ratio. Your entire line could be a "given" as in .."Given (above) would have ur neg value as numerator then the denom as the + number. U can do that. Reminds me of statistics or ratios.

A - plus a + is always neutral

the operation should be in subtraction......if you will multiple it(negative to negative=positive but negative to postive=negative).

depends...if the negative number is bigger, then it's negative and if the positive number is bigger, then it is positive
