i have a 95 kia sportage and when i leave the car and lock it, once i close the door it unlocks. Any idea how to make it not do that and stayed locked

Pull the handle up or out (as applies) when closing the door, or use the key to lock it. Better yet, stop being a cheapo and put in a security system that will let you lock/unlock with the key fob transmitter.

what abby said should work or try this, before pushing the lock down and closing the door, open the inside door handle, hold it open then push the lock closed and close the door, should stay locked then, Just remember to grab your keys first.

Manually bring the lock down, close door while holding handle and it should stay locked.

Pull the handle as it you are opening the door, then close the door.

yeah hold the handle up while you shut it....
