You just need to remember that 300 is based on Frank Miller's graphic novel. Therefore it's a lot like you might expect it to be with beautiful imagery, short well delivered lines (historically accurate phrases), people that seem larger than life, and of course violence. I love the ancient Greeks, especially the Spartans (speaking as a history major) and this movie is just a fun way to "live" the Battle of Thermopylae! As for the Persians, I think Xerxes in particular is portrayed wonderfully because he considered himself a "god-king."
Go see it!

It was too short! I didn't really like Gerard Butler's acting. It was a tad too corny at times. And it was too realistic - I was expecting it to be more mythological so to speak.
On the other hand - I loved the style - especially the battle scene where the two spartans are fighting alongside each other in a duo - great costumes - good music - the slowing down during kills was amazing - very creative. I liked all the jokes.
A lot of ppl were trying to read so much into the movie - drawing parallels with Iran and the Iraq war and lots of other crap. Just enjoy the damn movie already!

I loved it! I used to say GLADIATOR was my favorite film but I saw 300 the weekend that it opened and I was totally blown away! What an awesome movie! I was fascinated every minute! The script, the costumes and sets, the music, everything was just PERFECT!!!
I was most impressed by the action scenes, they were choreographed very nicely and looked pretty realistic. (OK, OK, the arterial spurt was wrong, there wasn't enough gushing blood and no sword, no matter how sharp, stays sharp long enough for you to hack that many people to death but let's overlook little details like that, OK?)
I own swords and I know it's not easy to swing those babies for long, you really have to be in good shape and these guys really looked it! Like real warriors not the weekend warrior type. I mean, you could believe that they'd been training as warriors since they were kids. I know people say it's all digitally enhanced but I don't care. It looked pretty real when it needed to look real.
OK, there was some gratuitous nudity (young "oracle" in flimsy gown, the Queen of Sparta flashing flesh, the king and queen in the bedchamber) to keep the young, testosterone laden men interested until the carnage but I guess that's only fair as we women were treated to the sight of all these buff guys in skimpy war outfits.
The bad guys were suitably bad, LOL! It cracks me up to see the people posting here at YA that are saying it's an anti-Iranian film or whatever. It's fiction for Pete's sake and it's a good story!! It was told from the viewpoint of a survivor, someone who came back to Sparta and told the story. Of course there will be embellishments!
Ah, but it wasn't just a good story, it was just a spectacular feast for the eyes in many respects and was very inspiring. It was a story about duty and loyalty, courage and honor. Who doesn't like that?
No question, 300 is the best movie of 2007 so far. I've seen several: WILD HOGS, 23, GHOST RIDER, CATCH & RELEASE, MUSIC & LYRICS.... um, some horror flick whose name I can't even remember now... in fact, several movies that I can't name now because they were so mundane but 300 is awesome! I'll buy it on DVD as soon as it comes out.

I would say the significance of this battle, as with any battle, is that it shows the sway of the world. Look at 300 as a battle, not the war. Before the Persian's invaded Rome and Athens were at major war with each. This battle brought the entire country of Italy together. So you could say that this battle united an entire country.
Watch the History Channel version, I thought it was more informative then the actual movie - which embellishes most of the facts.

I didn't like the fact that there was too much narration. I would of preferred more dialog from the characters.
What I did like was the purpose (lesson) of the movie. These 300 warriors were willing to sacrifice their lives in order for their people to continue in freedom. King Leonidas did not accept the Persian Kings offer of money and position. He preferred to die for his peoples freedom.
The movie was based on the historical battle of thermopylae.

Spartans Rule.....
The Persian shouldn't feel offended, its only a movie based on graphic novel, not history. what do you expect from people in Hollywood !?. they will even sell their mother if it's benefit them.
I love the fighting scene, but i hate the ending. the spartan survive for days through waves off attacks but died in seconds just by arrows? if they should die at least by fighting hand-to-hand

I love the fact it's a historical (sorry to say with many errors). I also love this movie because it's back in ancient greece. However, I Hate the fact that this movie has more special effects than anything else. Did you know theirs not 1 real backround in the whole movie...Not 1. I love the main actor(Gerard Butler) but you loose sight of talent with all those specials effects.

I like it because I love raw combat. Anyone can take a gun and shoot someone, but hand to hand fighting is a true test of a man. I also liked it because the Spartans lived to fight and gave their lives for their country. If you were in that same position and someone was trying to invade our country, what would you do? Would you run away or would you fight for you country? I would fight!

Ok personnally I have to say that if you like action movies you will enjoy this film a lot...but other than that I liked it b/c of all the visual effects that were created. Plus I also liked it b/c I love Greek history and all of that appeals to me. What else is there to like about the movie...oh yeah the acting was not at all bad, really intense. Well that's what I can say for myself, I recommend for you to see, that is if you haven't yet!
