Just wondering if this has happened before. I don't remember any other president doing this. Seems very odd.

The only other President that I can think of that has tried to claim Presidential Privilege and not have his staff testify was ...... you ready? ............ Richard M. Nixon.

Wow, in both cases they wanted their staff to lie and since President Clinton was impeached for lying under oath and not for the affair he had in office, I guess it would stand to reason that you as President would not want your staff under oath during questioning. That way they cannot be prosecuted for lying. At least President Bush is thinking ahead.

Yep - executive privilege but it is seldom used and most people comply with subpoenas. The real trouble starts later when someone does find out the truth (and they will) then those who did not comply are charged with the cover up and sent off to prison - remember Nixons staff went to prison for the coverup - not the breakin.

Bubba was under oath and it didn't seemt to help him tell the truth any.
