Free dating sites are not what you're looking for. As a dating consultant, I am constantly dealing with clients who try free dating sites and end up with all kinds of horror stories to tell me... Unfortunately, you end up having to weed through garbage users on those site... and waste more of your time with them than you do with actual likely candidates! I have heard of anything from married people posing as single, kids playing stupid pranks, or people completely lying about themselves and who they are...
I use the below website for ALL of my clients and have had a 90% success rate with helping them to find dates that develop into long-term relationships. Some of them even found dates only one-week into the 30 day free trial period!

Here is a place that reviews lots of dating websites. I don't know if they list free ones. Many of the online dating services listed have consumer reviews, so you can read what others think of it. Pretty cool site.
