I own a "80" Malibu, and a "78" Malibu. I also own a shop. It came with a 305 V-8 in it. Some came with the 3.8 V-6 but the Classic came with a V-8. I would suggest you go to this site and join us. www.maliburacing.com
This is a whole bunch of Malibu owners, and they have a forum in which you can get all the information you would ever want to know about the Malibu's.
Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!

a pal placed a monster a hundred over bore 454 engine in his Malibu classic. First holeshot flexed the physique and busted the windshield! extra useful persist with a small block crate motor. and 350 trans. those 383 Chevys are warm and undemanding to make warmer. of path there is not any torque like that of a huge block, yet they do ok.

the 305 was the most commonly produced g.m. power plant of that time period. the 350 and larger were reserved for the high perf. models.
