What are the by laws for picking T Ball players. What do they do about Coaches options (coaches children). Are they considered the first picks for the team? If one team has 2 coach's children on the team and the other has only 1 coach's child who would get first pick? These are teams that are being broken up year by year and picked again. Is there a place on line were I can download the rules and regualtions for Little League T ball?

it depends on the league itself. I have seen actual drafts of players with the coaches taking their kids and others pickign names out of hat. I don't know of any set rules regarding this however. The parks and rec commissioner usually has the final say in these matters.

C'Mon - what are you worried about? It's stinkin' T-BALL!!!!! It is when kids learn what the game is about. Who cares how the teams are assembled? As long as they are well-coached, a team can be competitive even against a "stacked" team. Worries like this are why I take a year off from coaching now and then so I can get a break from overbearing parents who all think their kid should play all of the time. Worry about the coaching, not the selection process.

But to be more direct to your question, what I have been involved included testing kids ahead of time on throwing, catching and hitting. They are placed in tiers (we used 4) and each coach selects 3 kids from each tier. Coaches kids are also placed in the tiers based upon initial skills testing. If a manager and his coaches have 3 tier 1 kids, they pick at the 2nd tier point on. If they stack 4-5 tier 1 kids, they lose tier 2 picks. Example - manager and 2 coaches have 4 tier 1's (stacking). they do not join the selections until the 2nd round of tier 2 players.

I would appeal to you to not get so wound up about this though. Don't be one of "those parents" that feel they want things run a certain way. Your kid will enjoy it more if all you do is bring the snacks when it's your turn to do so, attend the games, and cheer for them. Get to know all of the kids' names, cheer for all of them. Meet the other parents. Set a good example. And remember, the umpires are getting paid little to be out in the heat, rain, whatever weather conditions they encounter. Give them a break - they are not professionals. Leave the questioning of calls to the manager and coaches. I am very good at getting things evened out, by making quiet comments to the ump unheard by others. You give the ump a coke when he is sweating his butt off, he remembers that. You scream at him about a call where he had a better angle, or maybe he just blew one, he also remembers that. It is for the kids to have fun, not for the parents to puff out their chests about what a special player "Little Jimmy" is. The most important thing about sports is learning sportsmanship, being gracious win or lose, and having something nice to say to the opponent after a hard fought game. These things will make the entire experience SO much more enjoyable for all, not just your team, but the entire league. And remember - there will always be those who are the stereotypical "little league parents". Don't be them.

You can get general info from www.littleleague.org but the draft is usually left up to the local league board. Usually coach's children are automatic and they do not count as a first or second pick, just a player on the team. In T-Ball you frequently just draw names or blind draft without tryouts. Sometimes you break it up by age depending on how many kids signed up - for example if your league goes 6 years to 8 years your just divide up each age group by the number of teams and each team gets an equal amount of that age group. The coach's children will count toward that age group.
The goal in T-Ball is teaching, it is not to build a championship team so equality is more important than scouting players.
