Misguided advice, or just plain ignorance sometimes. I'm African-American(I'll be PC!) so when I named my son Aidan, all I heard was that it wasn't a "black" name, to quote it kindly. Don't worry about everyone else. It's the parents' decision only. Let them put their two cents in and then ignore them.

Heres the way I see it. People will ALWAYS put their 2 cents worth into WHATEVER they can. Names, cars, neighborhoods you are moving too, clothes you wear, food you buy. It doesnt matter, people will have an opinion about something! They wont ask you if you WANT their opinion half the time, they just offer it.
If you are picking a baby name for your child, then it means something to you, or it is what you want your child named for whatever reason. Its your decision. You are the parent. You are entrusted by God, or whatever diety you believe in to take care of and raise that child, and picking a name is part of that wonderful responsibility.
The people that tell you its not a good name, or make fun of it should learn to keep their mouth shut. TOO MANY times I have heard people say, "Well, Mom wants me to name him after his Grandpa" or "My family has always used Great great great great Uncle Ulysses name somewhere in the boys names." If that what you WANT, then GREAT!! If its not, then pick a name you want. If your family doesnt like it, TOUGH!! If they treat you like s* because of it, then your family needs HELP!!
Family and friends are supposed to stick together, help each other out, and support each other. If it bugs you that bad that someone doesnt like the name you picked for your child, they can either deal with it, or kiss your *** cuz you'll be needing new friends that really love you!!!

Because people feel sorry for the babies with the silly names who have to LIVE with these names and get teased and made fun of while they are in school.
Personally I wouldn't name my Baby Peyton. If you like it, go for it. It's your baby, and if you want to name her Peyton that's fine. No one else in your family or on the internet will have be there for Peyton when she is crying that she hates her name, or that she gets made fun of at school.
Kids are mean. Don't forget that.

I know! We named our oldest son Ian Carle. Ian after his paternal grandfather and Carle after his maternal grandfather. Everyone knew how we chose his name and why it was special to us...and yet, inevitably someone would always say "hmmm that's more of a man's name" or something along those lines...uh...yeah...some day he WILL be a man lol
People just don't know when to hold their tongue! It's one thing if you ask their opinion and then they give it to you...but unsolicited...I don't know why people even go there!
(personally, I hold my tongue and wait until I come home and tell my husband "you will NEVER believe what so-and-so is naming their baby!" lol)

Oh everyone likes and dislikes different names. Im 31 weeks pregnant, and I have plenty of "oh your naming her baylie nevaeh? wonderful! Thats beautiful!" and then I get, "no! Your not really naming her THAT are you?" lol so you cant expect everyone to like the same names. Jamie is my sisters name, definately not a boys name. So it is annoying but we have to deal with it

Cause everyone likes to feel like their opinion matters. That is why so many people won't say the name they choose until after the baby cause then hopefully people are less likely to criticize.

Sometimes when people choose a baby's name, they love it so much that they don't see that it could be something that hurts the child during his adolescence. The 2-cent givers may just be trying to help. If you knew a person wanted to name their child Vagina, you'd say something.

People put their 2 cents in about everything, esp. names,I have a Holden...ppl say did you name him off the soaps, well yes I did, maybe he will be famous someday. I come back with a question, like, where did your mom get your name, was it your dads brothers uncles wifes name. They get all confused.

Oh yesssss! I'm def. going through this right this minute. I decided that the name is private till the birth. I adore my son's name, but my mother sort of pushed it on to me, but this is my last child, and daughter possibly so it will be all my decision.
