This question is a little vague i know, but what did Malcolm X say/do to that resulted in a change? How and why? What was he responsible for in the long-run, and the short-run? Why? Please discuss your answer. Also.. please try not to mention Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (who i greatly respect).. I am asking for no comparisons, strictly Malcolm X. Thank you, I appreciate your answers.

Is not about what he did socially or politically; its about what he did for blacks and a failing Civil Rights Movement.

He encouraged black men how to stand up for themselves despite your past.
If someone hits you, hit em back!
Get an education.
Take care of your family.
Take charge of your communities.
Own your own business
Keep black dollars in black communities.Since we still had segregation and it was by no means equal, stop using that as an excuse and turn what you have into something great.
Basically, control your destiny!

In the short run, it has only been a short run. Slavery proclaimed over, not legally ended 143 years ago. It has only been just over 40 years that blacks have been allowed to be an equal part of this countries society.

In the long run, many issues of today positive or negative were above Malcolm X. He was simply a man that mentored a generation that was to comfortable and excepting of our situation. He changed my life. I do my best to support black owned business. I have a higher education and use it to better my community. My family is first and foremost.

It too bad Malcolm X is still misunderstood and misrepresented in our falsely accurate history books.

I think in terms of American society as a whole, he kinda reminded the nation that black people were angry and had issues. His presence provided an extreme by which most of the nation could realize that American could just sweep slavery and Jim Crow all under the rug.

He reminded white America that if they didnt treat its black citizens properly, there was reason for them to be afriad.

Malcolm X reminded black people that their anger at the social injustices of America were founded and justified. Maybe his talk was bigger than his acutally bite, but in America, might is right. The dollar wins the day. The most effective action of all of the civil rights movement were the montgomery bus boycotts.

All in all, I think he showed how a man can go from a criminal to outside of society to a reformed intellegent yet angry citizen to an enlightened true follower of religion.
