2 points for a win or OT win, 1 for OT or shootout loss, and 0 for regulation loss
playoff seeding goes like this:
1st vs. 8th
2nd vs. 7th
3rd vs. 6th
4th vs. 5th
# of goals scored does not matter unless it is the last way for tiebreaking two or more teams with the same amount of points

Win= 2 points
Loss= 0 points
No more ties but OT loss or SO loss= 1 point
Top 3 seeds are the division leaders then the other five are most points by the remaining teams. Goals matter only in a tie breaker. see www.nhl.com/standings at the bottom are tie breaker rules.

Top 3 seeds are the Division leaders. 4-8 are purely by the Points. The first 3 are also set by their points. The Points go 2 for a win 0 for a loss and 1 for an OT loss(ties are gone). Goals mean NOTHING, except when it comes to tie breakers.
