Just maybe the world has enough problems of it's own and everyone is trying to get through miserable times such as war, crime, hate, love, marriage, voting, aids, democracy, bills, food and so much more that the list would go on and on and on where it would bore you out of your mind where you forgot what you asked in the first place. Also, not too many people care about who dies and who lives, it's just a part of life, I guess. I appologize if this doesn't make any sense or doesn't really answer your question, but it was a good question.

Everyone has an excuse for everything. But you can do your part and educate others. Making people feel guilty isn't the best way to go so i'd reccommend you educate youself and read up about recent changes (declines or increases) in the soldier numbers and why. Compare and contrast between different countries, their political, economical, social situations and try to understand. Then move on and educate others. Be patient, open-minded and most importantly.. give a damn =) which im sure you do. If others don't care, then help them care. And if they turn a blind eye, then move on and try again.
Good luck

Because you're the one who's meant to care about them.
You're the one who will solve all the problems there. We're all just stepping aside to allow you to take the lead. Do it, man! They're crying.

Because we live in a world where we are lied to by our leaders and therefore have developed apathy. Pax - C.
