I KNOW Nicholas Sparks.....I've played pool with him in the Royal James in Beaufort.
He's a great person, as well as a great writer.

he has a sort of queer [gay] sounding voice he may be a closet case.
I never read his work only seen the notebook which is taken from the book,It's sap but I think his work is valueable because it adresses love which IS always valueable to people and at least as valueable as any of socio-political issues the literary canon deals with .

I have only read "A walk to remember". It was a beautiful book, I had to have the tissue at hand. I have "A bend in the road" i am getting ready to read.
I like his writing thus far.

He's a formula writer. It isn't that he's terrible. . . his stuff is just not "great literature." He's fine if you're looking for a pick-me-up love story (there's nothing wrong with that). Just don't expect staggering originality.

You asked. Awful. He writes romantic stuff with not even a tiny hook to reality. They are "feel good" reading and a happy ending is had by all. In order to get super rich, he repeats the same thing a lot. I like to read an easy chick lit number after I finish something with some depth and if people enjoy it, more power to them. Only takes one book for me to be bored to absolute death though. But then I work for a living.
