I have a problem with one of the girls i work with she tends to make comments to another staff member about me ie. my boss was upset yesterday cause I took my rostered day off etc these things are just not true I am the PA to the boss and if he was upset about it he would have asked me to come in. What concerns me is that she will say these things to others I think to cause a rift in the office she used to be an influential member of staff before she went on Mat Leave and has since come back to what you could say is a lesser position part time.

Well, you can choose to participate in the rumor wars, or to rise above them. As a friend of mine used to say, "You can't roll around with the pigs without getting mud all over yourself, too."

Treat everyone respectfully, do your job well, ask your boss for feedback on how you can improve. You may also mention to him that you've heard info around the office which leads you to believe that he may be upset with you...then repeat what Reba Rumor has been spreading around. Of course, he'll deny it...and if you keep raising those concerns under the auspices of "just want to make sure I'm performing the way you need me to" he'll probably make an effort to track down the rumor source.

Good luck!
