I'm interested in traveling to Alaska sometime. What are the best things to visit while there?

Traveling in Alaska is like traveling no other place on earth. There are 586,000 square miles here, and almost that many possibilities. Choose from wildlife viewing, sea kayaking and guided glacier hikes. Relax aboard a one-day cruise, pan for gold, bait a rod for Alaska’s world famous King salmon fishing.

I would first choose the area of Alaska you would like to visit. I think that Southeast Alaska is the most beautiful and diverse as far as sightseeing goes...but I'm a bit biased!

Then you need to pick your mode of transportation. You could take a cruise, fly to a specific town, or take the Alaska Marine Highway. The ferry system is a great option because you get to go through the smaller islands that the large cruise ships can't fit through. Traveling through the Wrangell Narrows on the ferry is like nothing else. Also, if you travel on the ferries you can choose which towns you want to stay in for a longer period of time.

I would visit a glacier, go kayaking, endless spots to go hiking, whale watching is an amazing experience, the Misty Fjords behind Ketchikan are wonderful, Petersburg is a great spot to go fishing, Ketchikan also has two world class Totem parks, and the list could really go on.

Alaska is so unique and diverse, it would take a long time to see the whole state, I've lived here my whole life and haven't even made a dent.

The previous post gives you the idea... The ideas are only limited by your own imagination.

More than half the world's glaciers are located here, the largest National Park, second largest National Park, third largest National Park. The largest National Forest, second Largest National Forest...

The fishing is an anglers dream come true, as is the hunting, hiking, photography... again, the list is endless. There is something for everyone.

Alaska is more than twice the size of Texas, with 5 very distinct and different geographic regions. Literally there is something different around each corner.

Come on up and see for yourself!

It isnt as cold as peeps say that it is. It is so fun and it is like as hot as, Florida or something in the summer. It is my favorite state ever, it is actually a great place to go on vacation. I've lived there for four and a half years. I love to go to IceLand!
