It's really anoying on my low E string the 12th fret buzzes like crazy. Will filing down the 13th fret help? I know its not the amp cause it does that when it's not plugged in.

You should never file down just one fret, especially if it was not buzzing until recently. Resurfacing frets require that all frets be done at the same time. If you don't, the problem will simply move farther up the neck until you either have no frets left or until you have removed most or all of the fret surface. Have a guitar repairperson take a look.

Because of the seasonal change in temperature your fret may have popped out a little. Look closely, and if this is the case I recommend a trip to the guitar shop. You can't just hammer them back in.

Try filing down the frets before and after.
