In Red Dawn, the nuclear war parts all take place offscreen, and are only mentioned in passing.

Try these. Not all involve actual nuclear battles, but they all have nuclear war as a central or major theme:

Wargames
The Hunt for Red October
Fail Safe
Fat Man and Little Boy
Terminator 2
The Mad Max trilogy

Well, not necessarily good for a physics class, but THE CLASSIC
nuclear war movie is "Dr. Strangelove".

You'll lever look at mutually assured destruction the same way again!

Depends if you are meaning the aftermath of nuclear war, or the buildup and fear of it coming on.

For the fear leading up to a possible war, my favorite was always War Games.

As to the aftermath, there's always The Day After.

Dr. Stranglove

Probably won't help you for class, but the best Nuke War movie ever made.

I remember being in high school when the movie "the day after" came out.........we all were scared to death and we talked about it for the longest time! It made a huge impact.
