It depends on the car, and what the original tire width was. If you are already wider than original, you quite possibly would find a 225 tire would rub - not a good thing. If you do have room for the width, you also have to change your aspect ratio. If you had a 205/70, for instance, you would probably have to go to a 225/50. Talk to a tire shop before you do anything, they will have an idea based on your car, not just your wheels.

if you can fit it in you wheel well, but you will also have to match the width of the tire, it won't bet the same since as the old tire since width is determined be a percentage of the tires diameter. Also you need to have the right size diameter of tire to match the wheel. R16 tire to 16" wheel etc.

Yes. The larger width could be a problem with some wheel well designs, but generally speaking, should be no problem.

Check with a tire vendor like Goodyear or Firestone. They could give you a cross reference to see all you choices.
