Mainly just the ones who had a religious agenda, preferring to take clues from the Bible about the Earth rather than using observations and science. There are still some who believe the Earth is flat, a type of Young Earth Creationists who started a club called the Flat Earth Society. It all goes right along with Christians almost burning Galileo at the stake for going against them and saying the Earth orbits the Sun instead of how the Bible said the Sun goes around the Earth.

Acutally not that many at least the most educated knew that earth was a sphere. I can't give you an actual percentage but it is a common misperception that everyone in those times believed the earth was flat.

I'd say the majority did, they were going to throw Columbus in jail for trying to say otherwise. There are still some that do, there is a flat earth society located in New York, you can find them on the web and get their news letter.

well not many..the literates very well knew that the earth was sphere but they were forced to say that earth was flat cuz if they said that the earth was sphere they would be devoured to death. you can check Galileo and Copernicus story. my teacher told me the whole story when i was in the 5th grade and owe to her cuz she made me win at least 2 points.
