Just Curious,

Sometimes the point of asking a rhetorical question is to make the other person feel stupid. Other instances for asking a rhetorical question can involve trying to invoke self-reflection or a more indepth thinking on a subject. Hope this helps.

Because they reveal the sarcasm of the asker, and the intelligence or stupidity of the answerer.

Usually to make a point. Example: "Why don't you take a picture? It will last longer." (meaning, stop staring at me, stalker)
