Well, it's not 100% percent free, but Outpersonals.com has free registration with -optional- membership upgrades. You can chat with people and stuff as much as you want too. The only downsides (if you want to call them that) are that your profile has to be approved (only takes about a day) and that any user can put any photo on their profile...including naughty ones.

Free dating sites are not what you're looking for. As a dating consultant, I am constantly dealing with clients who try free dating sites and end up with all kinds of horror stories to tell me... Unfortunately, you end up having to weed through garbage users on those site... and waste more of your time with them than you do with actual likely candidates! I have heard of anything from married people posing as single, kids playing stupid pranks, or people completely lying about themselves and who they are...

I use the below website for ALL of my clients and have had a 90% success rate with helping them to find dates that develop into long-term relationships. Some of them even found dates only one-week into the 30 day free trial period!
