It has just started recently, the steering is hard to turn and jerky and the wheel does not turn back smoothly, it almost feels like it won't turn back even though it always does.

you need to check your power steering fluid, and have your power steering belt looked at. If these things are fine, you may need a power steering pump. It pumps fluid to steering parts and rack & pinion, and helps your car steer smoothly.

This is called morning sickness in rack and pinion, the rack is jerky because of the uneven pressure in the rack. Try sucking out the power steering fluid and add a product called energy release or a product called Lucas they are both available at Oreillys auto parts . I have done this with a few cars and it has worked well. But its only a tmep fix. eventually you will have to replace the rack

you might be in cruise mode. check it
or u need to get ur steering wheel checked
or u need power steering fluid

check for a bad/sticking check valve in your steering gear box /rack&pinion assembly.............be sure you have enough fluid in your power steering resovour.......hope this help,s!
