My grandmother is white mexican (non-mestizo) born in Mexico as my great grandfather, great great grandfather that were born in Mexico and so on.

When I went through the archives to check on birth records dating back to the 1600's, I found that many of our direct ancestors that were born in Mexico were registered as "Espanol." Even though they were born in Mexico. Many others were registered as "Mulattos" (Which is half spanish and half indian). Many others were registered as "Indios." A lot of our spanish ancesters interrmarried with the indians and had kids. And our genes are still produce children where some look more european and others look more like indians.

Doesn't that make us the same people since our blood line comes from the spanish colonists?? I have another mexican friend whose ancestor was El Conde during the colonial times of the region of Mexico we are from. People that are not latino try to make their opinions about who we are using wikipedia. No Way!

All hispanic people, people whose language is derived from latin and whose ancestry is decended from spain, all have some Spanish in their blood. We, for the most part, are not the same as the colonial Spanish because of the fact that their blood was pure Spanish. Through the generations, they mixed with other races which results in the "Hispanic" or "Latino/Latina" of today. Hope this helps

First of all let me tell you that I'm glad you're interested on researching about your self identity and ethnic background.

Second, I'm sorry to let you know that you're wrong concerning the meaning of ''mulatto'' because such word means " half white, half-black." , but "mestizo" is the one that means " half indian, half white" . If you don't believe me you may check an encyclopedia or a history book where it talks about ethnic backgrounds and the name of each mixture.

At least but not least: even if you look white but your relatives look like indians ...all of you are still mestizos ;-) or iberoamericans because of the mixture of very opposite races.

Yes, you are a mixture of European Spanish, and Native American. The word "latin" actually refers to the European Spanish genes in your blood. Because you speak a "latin" language.
