I'm getting tired of seeing books claiming to have natural or herbal treatments for every illness on the planet, while all modern medicine is evil. What's worse is that people will blindly follow any advice as long as someone tells them it's natural! No scientific support needed! Just out of curiosity, does anyone out there claim they have a "natural" cure for a burst appendix, an acute heart attack, and a stroke in progress?

Here's another one: anyone know what herbal remedy will help a premature baby, born at 26 weeks, to breathe?

straycat: actually, physicians' annual dues fund the college of physicians and surgeons.
yutu34: Chinese medicine is great, when prepared by grandma back in the village, not in a pill from a bottle.

I'm wondering why your world view can't include both. I mean people blindly trust lots of things (including doctors, priests, naturapaths etc, the list goes on). Surely the outcome is the important thing.
The medical profession for many many years refuted that diet had anything to do with health and yet now they bombard us with this information.
Chinese medicine is considered 'alternative' and yet it is the result of 5000 years research and development.
Both Western, Eastern and alternative approaches are valid in different circumstances. Different strokes for different blokes.
Of course premmy babies need western medical intervention.
Come on mate, stop seeing the world and people in black and white, let some light and shade into your life..

Sounds as though you've had too many people touting natural remedies for stuff. While there's a lot of good in the natural approach there are also some drawbacks. A burst appendix is beyond naturaly healing for a quick fix. An accute heart-attack the same and a stroke in progress, likewise. Once those particulars have come to fruition you have little recourse but to summon the paramedics and let them do their stuff. Natural and herbal treatments are for those who are somewhat attune to their own bodies and are willing to deal with a crisis before it becomes just that. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. Some of it is psychosomatic. Some of it is natural law and a desire to "head the possy off at the pass", so to speak. Pharmaceutical companies basically fund the College of Pysicians and Surgeons, so naturally they will give the natural approach bad press. There are some things that natural remedies cannot "cure" especially if left too long. And the world of Western medicine is the same. Take some time out to re-evaluate both sides ... hopefully with an open mind towards both.

Hi Amuse Bouche
I always get a kick out of these questions. We all choose what we want to see and hear everyday. The fact that you're interested is good though. Im not going to elaborate much, but to the point of modern medicine. It's not even the fact that manmade chemicals are in our system, but the drugs actually surpress the issue not heal it. Surpress normal colon activity long enough and it turns into IBS, Diabetes, ect. One of many examples I could express. The body gives us signs to indicate we have issues and we choose to surpress or ignore them. Pain, Skin issues, and mucus are the 3 sign indicators the body is unbalanced.
Burst appendix is usually caused by tape worms in the digestive area ( in the colon). The average american has between 5-20 pounds of fecal matter. This can cause serious issues including the appendix. Blockage is the cause of every issue we have and not enough circulation to the heart will cause the issues you mentioned. The heart must have clean blood filtering to rid out the bad cells to function properly. Cayenne pepper is the greatest circulator of them all. Samuel Thompson cured 10's of thousands in the 1800's using only cayenne pepper.
Lobelia is the most powerful herb for respiratory issues and can help breathing issues very quickly. I would like to elaborate more, but stay open and you'll have the greatest freedom we have which is our health.
Able to heal oneself is a feeling I can quite explain.
Best of health to you

Natural remedies didn't just come out of thin air. Back before there were doctors and hospitals, what do you think some people would turn to. Native indians had some very special and effective medicines back in those days, and without all the side effects that so many of todays drugs have. I would go for natural remedies before I go for the drug that may cause, vomitting, heart failure, blood clots, and the list goes on. So don't dismiss natural remedies, they have been here longer than we think.

I don't agree with you. Both modern and traditional medicines such as natural herbs are beneficial for us as long as they are not dangerous.
Not all modern medicines can cure diseases. In eastern part of the world, the traditional medicines are still widely used and most of the time are effective.
Traditional herbs like Chinese Ginseng has been used for centuries and cured many ailments. Even the modern medicine are derived from certain plants or herbs. Therefore, please be wise on your statement.

natural cures are not about a medicine to cure any thing.. they are about fixing the chemical balance of the body so that the body may cure itself.... If you don't believe in the bodies ability to cure itself then that fine, just keep taking those toxic pill a hope for the best... My mother in law was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer 10 yrs ago and it is fatal according to the medical profession and she was given a year tops to live,, and not a very pleasant year ether.. She went to a naturalist who put here on a organic diet and some supplements and shes living a normal healthy life.. with no medicattion from a doctor.. and shes not paying the medical perffession thousands and thousands to stay alive sickly.. So just keep eating those chemicals for your allments and I wish you the best of health...Yes there is a lot of cons out there but thats why you have a brain!!!!!!!!

I heartily agree. Some people are absolutely irrational when it comes to alternative medicine.
Part of the problem stems from the impersonal manner in which traditional allopathic medicine is often practiced. Holistic practicioners are very adept at developing a good relationship with clients.
Another large problem is that not all conditions are treatable by traditional medicine. When a particular condition is fatal, people will often grasp at straws. Remember the Laetrile controversy in the 1980's?

yes I think natural remedies are over hyped, but there are some that work. You have to research them as much as you can. Holistic healers help. Try one of them. Andrew

LoL and totally agreeing. Most of this homeopathic over the counter medications/herbs/vitamins don't even have all the ingredients listed. So it can be a real crap shoot.
I'm waiting for someone to actually say it worked til then all my medical problems will still stay medical problems.
