Hey I want to throw my 100% cotton t-shirt in the washer set on warm but don't want it to shrink. I heard that only the dryer shrinks cotton and not warm water if you throw it in the washing machine. I'm sure some of you have experimented with this. Help!

Hot water will shrink it for sure, warm shouldn't, but I always wash my cotton clothes in cold, just to be safe, and hang dry them. The dryer will shrink it for sure.

You most of the time where the shrinking part somes in with washing of clothing is in the dryer part. I mean I had to learn that the hard way. It is the heat that will shinrk it more and then but once again the heat will discolor your clothing as well, Best thing I find to help keep the color in clothing is to turn it inside out before washing or drying. Hope that This will help you.

Cotton shrinks some automatically anyway, but unless it is white i would only wash it in cold water. good luck.

Because the shirt is mostly cotton, it will shrink. There are two kinds of shrinkage. Progressive shrinkage occurs when the fiber itself shrinks. Relaxation shrinkage is when the fabric shrinks. It is caused by the tension applied to fabrics during construction. The tension is released when the fabric is washed or steam pressed, causing it to shrink to its natural size. Most cotton fabric shrinkage occurs during the first wash

Yes! You want to wash it in cold water and air dry. Warm water and a dryer will shrink for shirt.

No,the warm water is barely even warm..not any warmer than standing in the sun for a few minutes on a sunny say therefor,it won't shrink unless you put it in the dryer.
