The weather is hot and humid in August. There are many types of Accomadation depending on your budget. There is the Green Hotel for the budget stay or Sofitel Vinipearl Resort and Spa which is very nice and more expensive.

The temperature will be between around 26 deg. C (79 deg.F) and 34 deg. C (93 deg. F) as it will be the height of the summer there as well. There's always a nice breeze from the ocean that makes it quite pleasant and it rains from time to time as well (about 130 mm or about 5 " for the month of August. It's really not the most humid time of the year as the rainy season there is Nov.-Jan. and the relatively "dry" season is Mar.-June)

The Asia Paradise , Bao Dai and Green Hotels have nice rooms for under $40/night.

Have a look through the National Tourism website for Vietnam access via this link on tourismrankings.com:http://www.tourismrankings.com/Vietnam/

It has a lot of useful info.

The weather varies on where you will be, but the average conditions are well described over here at the BBC site:http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/world/country_guides/results.shtml?tt=TT002920 and here http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/world/

For accommodation i highly recommend an international booking service from a reputable service with overseas support, should you have any difficulties etc. The places are so cheap it makes little difference to buy locally or in advance, but personally i don't like spending half a day to save $5 on the ground when i want to be travelling.

This directory makes it easy to sort by star rating, last minute and year round, location and price, with photos and descriptions to go with it.

If you are on the ground and have access to an internet cafe you can book online as you go.

Recently my friends did a cycle tour from Ho Chi Minh to Hanoi and successfully used the site, saying it was close to local prices [ and sometimes better ], but it saved them heaps of time.

Hope this helps - good luck with your plans
