trust me she notices.... and it really hurts her feelings when they do that but she also notices that you stand up for her and she will love you for ever for that and trust me this "being cool" is just a phase... when you get out in the real world its not gunna matter... maybe one day you might need a job and she will own her own company... trust me just treat everyone the way you would want to be treated you will reap the benefits that you sew... BTW I'm not old.... I'm only 20 take my advice

Is your friend really a dork? Or are the people who tease her the ones who are dorks? What is a "dork", do you know? No. I don't believe anyone does. Just because some people are smarter, or don't dress the way everyone else does etc. doesn't mean they are any different. I guess what I am trying to say is that good friends are hard to come by. Don't lose this person if they are genuine for a group of the so called "cool people" who probably would run a mile if you needed their support. Think seriously about this.

Be honest with her as a person... and remember that smart in Chemistry class is WAAAAAY different that interpersonal intelligence.
She probably has a keen understanding of her social position and uses her intellect to fend off the people that make fun of her.
I'd choose a time when you were not around a ton of other people and just address the issue- "You know, when you say things like that it can make me feel stupid." Then decide from there.
I wish I'd had a friend to help soften my geek-edge earlier in life... best of luck.

So, she is trying to make you feel stupid, or you just do on your own because she's so smart? You need to be honest with her if she's purposely flaunting the fact that she's so smart. Probably the only real thing she can cling to though and is proud of it because if she's being made fun of that badly, she has to have a lifeline! If you are a true friend, then tell her how she makes you feel, but please don't join in with the ones who make fun of her. Hope you do the right thing:)

You described her as your "dorky friend" and yet said you stand up for her. Why???? You're obviously talking about her behind her back and she probably thinks you are a better friend then you actually are. How about you go hang out with your "better" friends and let her find some buddies that will genuinely appreciate her great qualities. Then take a good long look in the mirror at yourself and ask yourself why anyone would want to be friends with such a hippocrite!

If ur gonna dis her and not be her friend again than sorry ur not a good friend. People who make fun your 'dorky' friend its gonna happen to them soon the way they treat her one day someone is gonna treat them the way they used to treat your 'dorky' friend. and its very good that u stick up for her. Just dont worry about it ok. You and your, once again, 'dorky friend' will be alright.

If she is your friend and you enjoy hanging out with her than I see no reason to give in to what your friends say although you are calling her a dorky friend but you know who you like to hang out with just follow your heart..

so shes smart.... her intelligence will take her places someday...
its good that you stick up for her and everything...but be her friend and do things you like to do with each other. Just because she acts differently than what you are used to... doesnt mean its a bad thing.

The first thing you need to do is to stop calling yourself her friend. You ARE talking behind her back. And it doesn't seem like you really like her for who she is, you want her to dumb herself down so she'll fit in. Or are you more worried that YOU will be less popular for being "friends" with her?
