My take:
"Dr. Frankenstein flung (on) a power switch (no semi colon) and blue streamers of static electricity crackled (all) about the table and [you could make this two sentences by breaking here and taking out 'and' or keep it as a longer sentence if it fits into the paragraph well] the creature gave a grunt, (opening) it's smoldering eyes." [it is correct to say 'and opened' but since you said 'and' just a few words ago it feels odd to say it again, I think]
