Shhh... Please keep this a secret. Adelaide is the best kept secret in Australia. Don't let anyone find out. The people are very friendly. Shopping is great, both in the CBD and at the outlying malls. Traffic is a bit rugged, at times, mainly due to outsiders who have no idea where they are going (don't let anyone know how great Adelaide really is, and there will be fewer tourists mucking with out traffic...) While our teams may not be perrenial champions, they provide great entertainment. OUr parks are fantastic. The green belt around the CBD is unique, offering us recreation and relaxation. Party time is a bit of a bore. Either you have to go to the pubs downtwn or you have to go to the pubs at the beaches. Pity Glenelg is only a few K's away, and that the tram only goes fromthe jetty to Adelaides CBD. If the tram was just a little longer, you could recover enough from the ride to be sober driving home... Now we have the added attraction of Dolphins. If all that isn't enough, three world class wine production areas are within an hours drive of the CBD, Langhorne Creek to the south, the Barossa and the Claire to the north (let me know when you want to go tasteing...I will join you!). Our museums and libraries are world class. The old goal is a relic of history that demands your attention. I could go on and on. Just keep this all a secret. Don't let anyone else know! We love Adelaide!

Adelaide is a beautiful city, & the people are pretty amazing.
Yeah Adelaide is a lot smaller than the east coast cities but that is the beauty of it.
Its really easy to get around and there is plenty to see, and the beaches are awesome.
Go to Adelaide & make up your own mind if you spent your life listening to everybody else you'd never leave the house.

I went ther a log while ago to visit relatives and not much has changed since then. I like it because it is a very big place with heaps of things to do and see but it doesnt have that hectic rat race mentality or speed. I quite enjoyed taking late night buses and chatting to the dirivers while I got to sight see the place uncluttered by poeple. There are lots of interesting tours, lots of history, heaps of things to do. If one of those people that live life like someone who had just consumed 50 cups of coffee then maybe it will bee a bit too relaxed for you.
PS aleays take opinions with a grain of salt as some people go to places with a negative perspective and treat people un-pleasantly or ar a rude or just dont try to enjoy themsleves and their perceptions become a self fullfilling prophecy.
I reccomend a visit to Adelaide and SA in general- go and enjoy.

Don't believe what you hear. People that give Adelaide a bad name are just ignorant and ill-informed.
Some of them come from a city like Sydney or Melbourne, that are always busy, and expect that everywhere they go in Australia is going to be exactly like that...(unrealsitic expectations).
Adelaide is not as busy a city as Sydney and Melbourne but that doesn't mean it does not have attractions or that it is a "country town?"
It is not as busy as Sydney and Melbourne but it is not too quiet either...but just right, somewhere in between.

as an ex adelaidian i am shocked to hear that people call it boring. there are many and varied things to do and places to visit. the main advantage of adelaide is the relatively small driving hours from the cbd to most of the big attractions. and as for the cbd itself unlike many other capital cities it is almost impossible to get lost. go for a long drive through the adelaide hills and you will see some of the most beautiful little towns with some of the most spectacular views. visit historic hahndorf and have a walk up the street and stop at some of the best watering holes in australia. i could keep going but i will leave it up to you see for your self. as with life everyone is very differant and what i think is boring you willl thoroughly enjoy. take chances in life and you will be rewarded.

Quite the opposite. Not as lively as the other Aussie cities, but enough to make a great party, especially in the downtown areas.

I agree with those who said that it's not as lively as Sydney and Melbourne but that there are things to do. It does depend on what you are looking for in a holiday. I think it also depends on your attitude. I mean if you visit a place expecting not to like it you will see the bad things not the good. You need to keep an open mind and make your judgement after you have had a good look around.

The city is really quite. people used to say lot of retired people live in there. If you are interested in calm place, then this is be good for you. Otherwise stay for sometime, feel the city and move on....
